JAG-Missouri’s annual essay contest highlights the strengths of Missouri

On Tuesday, November 9, JAG-Missouri’s essay winners were honored by Governor Mike Parson and First Lady Teresa Parson during a reception at the Capitol Rotunda in Jefferson City, Mo. This is the fourth annual event that the Governor and First Lady have hosted for JAG-Missouri students.

This year, students again competed to attend and were selected by a committee of school officials and/or community representatives. The essay topic for this year asked students, “What has contributed to making Missouri great over the past 200 years?” Sixty-six of JAG-Missouri’s 67 high school programs competed in this year’s essay contest.

In conjunction with this event students will also be delivering ornaments they have made that represent their area of the state or school. These ornaments will be placed on a special tree during the holiday season and displayed as the “JAG-Missouri Christmas Tree” in honor of the program and the First Lady’s initiative.
